What is Sattu Drink?
Sattu drink (also called sattu sharbat, sattu paani, or sattu sherbet) is the most consumed protein drink in Bihar — drunk by farmers, students, office workers, and pregnant women alike. It's made by mixing roasted Bengal gram (chana) flour with cold water, salt or jaggery, and a flavouring of your choice.
Unlike whey protein shakes that cost ₹2,500/kg, sattu costs ₹50–80/kg and delivers 20g protein per 100g. One glass = 6g protein + slow carbs + minerals + zero added sugar (in the namkeen version). It's genuinely the most underrated drink in India.
"In summer, my grandfather drank one glass of sattu sharbat before going to the fields. He worked 8 hours in 42°C heat without breakfast. That drink kept him going."

How to Choose Pure Sattu (Not All Sattu is the Same)
- Should be 100% roasted chana (Bengal gram) — read the label carefully.
- Avoid blends with cheap flours (wheat, barley) added — common in bulk-market sattu.
- Color should be golden-brown, not pale or very dark.
- Aroma should be nutty and slightly toasty.
- No additives, preservatives, or colors — pure sattu is just one ingredient.
