In Ayurveda, the day does not truly begin until your stomach is empty. If you wake up bloated, with a heavy abdomen, no clear bowel movement, or that tired-from-sleep feeling — your body is still carrying yesterday's load. Over weeks, that load becomes Ama (toxic residue) — the single biggest cause of fatigue, weight gain, dull skin and disease.

A naturally clean stomach every morning is not a luxury — it is the foundation of health. Here is exactly how to achieve it, using only what is already in your home.

    1. The 2-Glass Warm Water Ritual (Most Important)

First thing on waking — before brushing — slowly sip 2 glasses (500 ml) of warm water. Sit comfortably and sip, never gulp. Warm water activates peristalsis (the muscular wave that moves waste out) within 5–10 minutes. This single habit clears the stomach for 70% of people.

    2. Warm Water + Lemon + Honey (For Weight Loss)

1 glass warm water + ½ lemon + 1 tsp raw honey. Stimulates liver bile, breaks down stored fat, kickstarts metabolism. Skip the honey if you have diabetes.

    3. Triphala Water Overnight (The Ancient Cleanser)

Soak 1 tsp Triphala powder in 1 cup water overnight. Strain and drink first thing in the morning. Triphala — the most prescribed Ayurvedic remedy in history — cleans the entire digestive tract gently, without dependency.

    4. Ghee + Warm Water (For Chronic Constipation)

1 tsp desi ghee in 1 cup warm water on empty stomach. Lubricates the colon and softens stool naturally. Best for Vata-type dryness — the most common cause of incomplete elimination.

    5. Soaked Raisins + Figs + Prunes

Soak 6 raisins + 4 figs + 2 prunes in water overnight. Eat first thing along with the water. Natural fibre + sorbitol pull water into the colon and trigger clean elimination within 30 minutes.

    6. Jeera–Ajwain–Saunf Water

½ tsp of the trio boiled in 1 glass water for 3 minutes. Drink warm. Fires up Agni, releases trapped gas, and pushes the stomach to empty itself within 15 minutes.

    7. Vajrasana + Pawanmuktasana (5 Minutes)

Sit on heels (Vajrasana) for 3 minutes, then lie on back and pull knees to chest (Pawanmuktasana) for 2 minutes. Mechanical pressure on the abdomen forces trapped gas and waste downwards.

    8. Clockwise Abdominal Massage

Lying on your back, use 4 fingers to massage the abdomen in a clockwise circle for 3 minutes. This follows the natural direction of the colon and physically moves the waste along.

    9. The "Toilet Squat" Trick

If you use a Western toilet, place a small footstool under your feet so your knees are higher than your hips. This recreates the natural squat position and improves elimination by up to 50%, according to a published Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology study.

    The 7-Day "Clean Stomach" Challenge

    • Wake at 6 AM, no phone for the first 30 minutes
    • 2 glasses warm water + soaked Triphala water
    • Vajrasana 3 min + clockwise massage 3 min
    • Sit on the toilet for 10 minutes — even if no urge
    • Breakfast: soaked raisins + figs + warm oats with ghee
    • Throughout the day: 3 litres warm water (sipped)
    • Dinner before 8 PM, light and warm
    • Bedtime: ½ tsp Triphala in warm water

By day 5, most people report a complete morning bowel movement, flatter belly, more energy and clearer skin. By day 7, the new habit locks in.

    What NOT to Do

    • Skip cold water — it freezes Agni and makes constipation worse
    • Avoid daily laxatives (Dulcolax, Isabgol) — they create dependency
    • No tea or coffee before clearing the stomach — they dehydrate the colon
    • Do not check your phone before the bathroom — it activates stress and shuts down peristalsis

    The Easy Daily Stomach Cleanser

RootWell's Jeera–Ajwain–Saunf + Himalayan Salt blend is the simplest way to support a clean stomach every morning. ½ tsp in warm water before meals.
